SignUpGenius Pricing: What It Actually Costs
Is it free, what the free tier holds back, and what you pay to remove it
SignUpGenius has a free tier, so the real question is not "is it free" but "what does free cost you." The honest answer is ads shown to your participants and some features held back. This page lays out what the free tier includes, what the paid tiers add, and what the equivalent looks like elsewhere.

Is SignUpGenius free?
Yes, there is a free plan, and for a one-off potluck it genuinely works. The catch is not a hidden charge — it is that the free tier displays third-party advertising on the pages your participants see. You do not see the ads as the organizer nearly as often as your guests do.
The second catch is feature gating. Several things most organizers assume are standard — removing branding, some reminder and messaging options, richer themes and reporting — sit on paid tiers rather than the free one.
SignUpGenius does not publish a single fixed price list that stays stable, and it changes tiers periodically, so check their pricing page for current numbers before you commit. What is stable is the shape of the deal: free with ads, or pay to remove them.

Which one is cheaper for you
It genuinely depends on volume, so here is the honest split:
- Under 50 sign-ups per sheet and a few events a year — we are free and ad-free, they are free with ads
- Hundreds of sign-ups on a single sheet — their free tier stretches further than ours before you pay
- One big event a year — our $12 Weekly Pass is likely the cheapest way to get unrestricted features anywhere
- Year-round recurring sign-ups — compare our $99/year against their annual tier directly
- Ads are unacceptable to your audience — that decides it regardless of price
