## Which sheet do you need?

| Situation | Sheet | Columns that matter |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Front desk or office visitors | Sign in | Name, time in, time out, signature |
| Meeting, training, or class attendance | Sign in | Name and signature; time in if hours count |
| Laptops, keys, tools, or AV gear | Sign out | Item, time out, time in, initials on return |
| Students leaving the classroom | Sign out | Destination, time out, time in |
| Library or classroom book loans | Sign out | Item, date out, date back |

## How to use a sign out sheet

1. **Write the location and week at the top** — One sheet per room, cart, or key box, so a missing item has one place to look.
2. **Fill a row when something leaves** — Date, name, the item or destination, and the time out.
3. **Fill the time in when it comes back** — A row with no time in is the list of what is still out.
4. **Initial the return** — Whoever checks it back in initials the row, so nobody argues later about whether it came back.

## What to put on a sign in sheet

- Location and date at the top, so a stack of sheets stays in order
- Name, printed clearly
- Time in and time out, if anyone needs to count hours or know who is still in the building
- Signature, when the sheet is a record of attendance
- Nothing private: a sheet on a clipboard is visible to everyone who signs it, so leave off phone numbers unless you need them

## Sign in sheet vs sign up sheet

Every printable layout in one place: [sign up sheet templates](https://www.signupkit.co/sign-up-sheet-template).

A sign up sheet comes before the event: people claim a time, a dish, or a job, with a limit on each. A sign in sheet is filled at the event, as people arrive. If people need to claim spots ahead of time, a sign up sheet is the better tool.

SignupKit is free for 5 sheets with 50 sign-ups each and 50 reminder emails a month, with no ads and no account for the people signing up.

## How to Create Your Sign Up Sheet with SignupKit

1. **Create your event** — Add the event name, date, location, and a short description for participants.
2. **Add sign-up slots** — Create slots for dishes, shifts, roles, or RSVP options. Set quantities and optional deadlines.
3. **Share one link** — Send a single mobile-friendly link. Participants sign up without creating an account.
4. **Track and remind** — See who signed up in real time, export the list, and send automated reminder emails.

## FAQ
